From 2021 to 2025 Benang recorded zero lost-time injuries while our hours worked grew almost five-fold. That record is not luck. It is a system.
Our record
Any contractor can post a good year. Benang's lost-time injury frequency rate has been zero every year from 2021 to 2025, across live water networks, gas mains under pressure, high voltage cable installations and remote mine sites. Over the same period our delivery grew from around 33,000 hours worked per year to around 160,000. Growing headcount is when safety systems usually crack. Ours held, because every crew member, from apprentice to operations manager, carries personal responsibility for the safety of their mates, our clients and the public. Our WorkCover premium rate has held at approximately 1.37 per cent from 2023 to 2025, well below industry norms, which is what a genuinely low-claims record looks like in an insurer's ledger.

Approximate total hours worked per year across all Benang crews. Figures shown for the years Benang reports publicly; the lost-time injury count was zero in every year charted.
Benang operates a single integrated management system covering quality, safety and environment, certified to ISO 9001:2015, ISO 45001:2018 and ISO 14001:2015 by a JAS-ANZ accredited body. We are accredited by the Office of the Federal Safety Commissioner (Accreditation No. 823), the benchmark for Australian Government funded construction work. The system is governed by our Management Systems Manual on a plan, do, check, act cycle, and runs day to day on the SafetyCulture platform: digital pre-starts, inspections, hazard reports and corrective actions, visible to site crews and management in real time. Our 2026 ISO recertification audit returned nil non-conformances.
Self-performing means we control quality at the point of work, not through a subcontractor's paperwork. Our crews test, disinfect and commission to client standards, including pressure testing to AS/NZS 2566.2 on water assets and AS 2885 compliance on gas, and hand over complete As Constructed documentation packs. Right-first-time delivery is a habit our asset owner clients audit and verify.
Benang won the Water Corporation Safety Award in 2023 for our DryVac innovation, a non-destructive excavation approach that exposes live underground services without putting people or assets at risk. The same thinking runs through our fleet choices: dry-vac trucks, trenchless drilling and AS 5488 service locating, so the safest method is also the standard method.
