Challenge
Rottnest Island is a sensitive island environment with limited access, so cables had to go underground with minimal surface disturbance.
Approach
Benang upgraded the island's electrical infrastructure and used horizontal directional drilling to install the underground cables, keeping surface disturbance to a minimum across the sensitive island environment.
Outcome
The upgrades were delivered between 2024 and 2025 with zero lost time injuries and zero environmental incidents, including four 1MVA kiosk substations commissioned for the Rottnest Island Authority, strengthening the island's electrical network while the trenchless installation protected the island's surface and vegetation.
