Benang has delivered water infrastructure for Western Australia's major utilities since 2018. Our water crews are experienced across the full spectrum of pipeline construction, from small-bore service connections through to large-diameter MSCL trunk mains. We bring our own plant, our own welding teams, and our own quality systems to every site.
Water is Benang's founding discipline and still its deepest. Our crews build and renew water mains from DN80 to DN630 in MSCL, PVC-M, HDPE and DICL, by open cut and by our own trenchless HDD rigs. We deliver live network cutovers and critical shutdowns, deep sewer to 4.5 metres, pump stations, wastewater treatment plant upgrades, ponds and reservoirs, and the pressure testing, disinfection and commissioning that hand assets back to Water Corporation standard. Led by Kristan Duthie, Operations Manager for Water and Civil, the team self-performs the full cycle from pre-construction surveys to final reinstatement, so one crew is accountable for the result.

Self-performing electrical infrastructure contractor, Tier 1 on the Western Power Network Support Services Panel, delivering HV and LV cabling, substations, and street lighting across Western Australia.
Benang's power division delivers electrical infrastructure for Western Power, local governments, and commercial developers. Our crews hold the licences, the plant, and the experience to deliver HV and LV underground cabling, street lighting schemes, and substation construction across Perth Metro and regional WA.
Benang builds and maintains power infrastructure across Western Australia, from greenfield installation through to ongoing network maintenance. We deliver for the asset owners and head contractors who keep the network running, and we do it with our own people and plant.
We sit on the Western Power Network Support Services (NSS) Panel, where we deliver cable laying, trenching, dry-vac excavation, directional drilling, and substation construction and maintenance. We are actively pursuing positions on more critical panels, including ENCP.
Our Power team brings the discipline of an asset owner contractor, the ingenuity of a builder, and the cultural responsibility of an Aboriginal-owned business. We self-perform our work. That means our supervisors, our cable hands, our drillers and our jointers are Benang people, accountable to one chain of command and one safety culture.
What we deliver
Cable laying
Efficient and safe installation of high and low voltage electrical cables using advanced equipment, across HDPE conduit, direct buried, catenary and underground configurations. We supply, pull, joint, terminate and test HV and LV cable in conduit and direct buried, including feeders into critical sites such as St John of God Hospital.
Service locating
Accurate detection and mapping of underground utilities to prevent damages during construction, integrated with survey and soil testing.
Trenching and dry-vac excavation
Application of modern trenching techniques to ensure optimal installation depth and alignment of utility conduits, including in congested brownfield environments. Our own dry-vac trucks and crews add non-destructive excavation that safely exposes underground utilities and reduces the risk of strikes on existing infrastructure.
Horizontal directional drilling
Minimally invasive trenchless installation of utilities under roads, rail corridors, environmentally sensitive areas and urban streetscapes. Our drilling team delivers HDPE and conduit installations from short shots to multi-kilometre runs.
Substation construction and maintenance
Comprehensive services from groundwork to electrical integration, including kiosk substations, indoor switchrooms, ring main units and HV switchgear, with a focus on reliability and efficiency.
Overhead removal, underground conversion and street lighting
Pole and overhead conductor removal, conversion to underground reticulation, and night-shift outage management. We supply and install new street light poles, public lighting cabling and uni-pillar configurations, integrated with civil reinstatement.
Testing and commissioning
Cable testing, jointing verification, overcurrent and fault setting commissioning, and full As Constructed documentation packs aligned to client and asset owner standards.
Decommissioning of existing assets
Safe isolation, removal and disposal of generator connections, redundant cabling, and obsolete electrical infrastructure, with reinstatement to original or improved condition.
Renewable power systems

Gas.
Gas main installation, connections, and maintenance in partnership with ATCO Gas Australia.
Benang is an accredited contractor for ATCO Gas Australia, delivering gas main installation, service connections, and maintenance across Perth Metro. In July 2025, ATCO awarded Benang a multi-year gas infrastructure contract, recognising our track record for safety, quality, and on-time delivery.
Benang has delivered gas infrastructure for ATCO since 2021, and today self-performs one of Perth's major gas programs, Project Moorditj, through to 2028. Our ML2 crews lay HDPE mains of all sizes with electrofusion and butt welding, complete live mains insertions that keep customers on supply while cutting excavation, and run HDD coil pulls with our own rig and coil trailer to reduce traffic management and resident impact. SL2 layers and G-Class gas fitters carry the work through services, commissioning and purging, all delivered to AS/NZS 4645. Led by Jason Lilly, Operations Manager for Gas, the team owns the full cycle from excavation to reinstatement.

Precision fabrication, coded welding, boilermaking, and shutdown support delivered from our Bibra Lake workshop.
Our Fabrication service line, delivered by the Benang Mechanical team, provides precision fabrication, coded welding, boilermaking, structural, piping and shutdown support from our Bibra Lake workshop. Our tradespeople hold the certifications and experience for complex mechanical scope in demanding environments, onshore and offshore.
The Fabrication team fabricates vessels, pipework, engineered components and structural assemblies from our Bibra Lake workshop: an 850 square metre fabrication bay with 7 metre door clearance, 7.5 metre hook height and cranage to 10 tonnes, backed by a 1,600 square metre laydown at Perth Airport. We work in carbon steel, stainless, duplex and super duplex, Zeron and Inconel, and weld to AS 1554.1, ASME IX, ASME B31.3, AS 2885.2, AS 3992, AS 4041, AS 1210, API 1104, AWS D1.1 and DNV, with in-house NDT. On site, our crews deliver mechanical and piping installation, structural steel including chutes and hoppers, and planned, reactive and shutdown maintenance, onshore and offshore. Grant Horwood, Operations Manager for Fabrication, leads the team.
Benang is one of very few Aboriginal-owned contractors in Australia delivering precision fabrication, coded welding, boilermaking and shutdown support at this level, work that has opened opportunities for end-to-end delivery and diversification into the oil and gas sector.

Utilities make up the core of Benang's business. As one of the few Aboriginal-owned, self-performing multi-utility contractors in Australia, we deliver water, power and gas infrastructure directly for the asset owners who hold it, rather than as a subcontractor several layers removed. One Benang crew can carry pipeline construction, HV and LV cabling, and gas main installation across a single utilities program, so there is one point of accountability from mobilisation through to commissioning.

Non-process infrastructure and sustaining capital delivered for Fortescue across the Pilbara.
Benang delivers non-process infrastructure and sustaining capital works for Fortescue across the Pilbara, including dewatering and civil works, site electrical and mechanical scope, and pit and pipe works, delivered FIFO to sites more than 1,200 kilometres from Perth. Much of this work has been delivered alongside TCD Civil Construction, including an ongoing TCD Civil and Dewatering program and the Solomon Data Centre build. Because our crews carry water, power, gas and mechanical trades in one team, civil, structural and electrical scope is managed inside a single Benang crew rather than across a chain of subcontractors.
Working on Country in the Pilbara also means working through heritage and land access requirements, including Section 44 compliance processes, before a shovel goes into the ground. Aboriginal participation has reached up to 65 per cent on some Pilbara projects, the highest in Benang's portfolio.

Benang is expanding into the oil and gas sector through our Fabrication service line, our precision fabrication and mechanical delivery team at Bibra Lake. Our tradespeople hold coded welding qualifications to ASME IX, ASME B31.3, API 1104, AS 2885.2 and DNV, and we fabricate and install piping in carbon steel, stainless, duplex and super duplex, Zeron and Inconel. Combined with our shutdown support experience onshore and offshore, and our gas network delivery to AS/NZS 4645 for ATCO, this gives us capability built for the codes and standards the oil and gas sector requires.
Our Fabrication team has already delivered coded piping packages for oil and gas clients, including copper nickel and duplex and super duplex pressure piping for Vermilion Energy and a painted pipe spool and galvanised structural steel package for Beach Energy, all fabricated and NATA-certified tested from our Bibra Lake workshop.

Bulk earthworks, drainage and servicing that turn raw land into construction-ready sites.
Benang self-performs the civil and utility work that gets land ready to build on: site establishment and clearing, bulk and detailed earthworks, drainage and culvert construction, and the water, sewer and power servicing that follows. The same crews that renew mains for Water Corporation and lay cable for Western Power carry the servicing scope, so a developer deals with one contractor from the first machine on site through to a construction-ready pad.
That work rarely happens on empty ground. Our land development packages have been delivered next to occupied properties under WAPC approval with dust, noise and traffic controls, along a 19 kilometre stretch of live highway with traffic management in place, and inside a live rail corridor under strict rail safety operations.

Defence is a sector Benang is actively pursuing. We have not delivered work under a defence contract yet, so what follows is capability rather than track record. As one of the few Aboriginal-owned, self-performing multi-utility contractors in Australia, we bring the accreditation, the site discipline and the self-performing crews that defence estate and infrastructure work calls for.
We hold Office of the Federal Safety Commissioner accreditation (OFSC Accreditation No. 823) for Australian Government funded construction work, and certification to ISO 9001 for quality, ISO 14001 for environment and ISO 45001 for health and safety. Supply Nation certification supports agencies and head contractors working to Indigenous Procurement Policy targets and Western Australian Indigenous Procurement Policy commitments.
The operational discipline is already proven elsewhere. Our crews work inside live rail corridors under rail safety operations, on operating mine sites under permit and heritage controls, on an island with controlled access and a barged supply chain, and beside live highways under traffic management. Water, power, gas, fabrication and civil trades sit in one company, so a site with restricted access is worked by one accountable crew rather than a chain of subcontractors passing through the gate.
