  • Challenge

The Hyden treatment plant needed more effluent storage to keep up with the town and surrounding agricultural areas. The upgrade meant building new dams, reshaping embankments, and controlling erosion across a large area, work with real geotechnical and earthworks complexity.

  • Approach

Benang carried out the investigation, design validation, and earthworks to construct two additional dams, reshaped the embankment, completed the compaction, and installed 10,000 square metres of Miracell erosion control. Ageing MS27 and MS27C mains were replaced in the same programme.

  • Outcome

The upgrade delivered 900,000 litres of additional effluent storage with zero lost time injuries, zero environmental incidents, and 60 per cent Aboriginal participation, among the highest of any Benang project.
