Metro Water Reticulation Renewals, Package 2

Benang self-performed the renewal of PVC-M water mains across Perth metro road corridors for Water Corporation. The crews used open trench and horizontal directional drilling, cut in dual feeds to keep customers on supply during cutovers, and reinstated every road, verge, and driveway in house.

Challenge
The renewals ran through live metro road corridors with constant public interface. Customers had to stay on supply through every cutover, traffic had to keep moving, and live water services had to be managed without interruption.
Approach
Benang completed pre-construction surveys, Safety in Design reports, and community notifications with its own engineering and liaison staff. The crews self-performed all civil trenching and backfilling, open cut as the primary method and switching to in-house trenchless under traffic-sensitive areas. New PVC-M mains were installed with full quality control, pressure tested and disinfected to Water Corporation standards. Cross-connections were cut in to provide dual feed so customers stayed on supply throughout. Asphalt, verges, footpaths, and driveways were reinstated to pre-construction condition by in-house teams.
Outcome
The programme ran from January 2024 to December 2025 and achieved Aboriginal participation up to 15 per cent, with every road, verge, footpath, and driveway reinstated to pre-construction condition by in-house teams.
