Challenge
Two sections of ageing steel main in the Wheatbelt had reached the end of their service life. Both replacements crossed a regional road, so the new main had to go under Merredin Narembeen Road without closing it.
Approach
Benang replaced the steel mains across the two packages with DN200 and DN250 mild steel cement lined pipe, around 349 metres of new main in total. At each road crossing the crew used trenchless methods to keep the road open.
Outcome
The work reached zero lost time injuries and zero environmental incidents, with Aboriginal participation up to 30 per cent, supporting safe and reliable water supply for the Narembeen community.
