Narembeen Mains Replacement

Benang replaced ageing MS27 and MS27C mains at Narembeen for Water Corporation, swapping asbestos cement pipe for PVC and renewing a section of mild steel cement lined main, around 450 metres of pipe in total, inside a four week window.

Challenge
The MS27 and MS27C mains had aged and included asbestos cement pipe that needed safe removal and replacement, all delivered inside a tight four week window.
Approach
Benang replaced 115 metres of DN80 and 215 metres of DN58 asbestos cement pipe with DN100 PVC and renewed 120 metres of mild steel cement lined main, around 450 metres of pipe in total, with a small, focused crew.
Outcome
The job was completed on time and within budget, with over 35 per cent Aboriginal employment on site at all times, 10 per cent Aboriginal business spend, zero lost time injuries, and zero environmental incidents.
